First 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' Trailer Debuts and is One of the Best Trailers of 2019!

Who You Gonna Call!? After 30 years, a weird television show, and a decisive remake, the long awaited third film in the original Ghostbusters series is finally making its way to theaters next year. The film channels in its inner Stranger Things and follows "two children who move to Summerville, Oklahoma after their mother inherits property from a relative. When the town experiences a series of unexplained earthquakes, the children discover their family's link to the original Ghostbusters, who have become something of a myth as many have long-since forgotten the events of the 'Manhattan Crossrip of 1984', and the secret legacy that their late grandfather left behind" (Nast, Condé).

"Jason Reitman, son of original director Ivan Reitman, will direct from a script co-written by himself and Gil Kenan, while Ivan Reitman will serve as a producer (Breznican, Anthony)."

Reitman needed to take this film in a different direction than before. Even though the 2016 reboot got a lot of hate for inappropriate reasons, it was still divisive in quality from people who kept an open mind. The reboot was criticized for its over the top silliness and humor. Ghostbusters: Afterlife shows to be a different direction than the previous, marketing itself as a coming of age science fiction film with hints of comedy.

The cast of Afterlife is sure to please fans as it plays into the Stranger Things-esque vibe the trailer presents by actually starring one of the stars of Stranger Things, Finn Wolfhard. Wolfhard will be sharing the screen with one of the most liked actors in Hollywood, Paul Rudd, and reportedly the original cast of Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, Sigourney Weaver and Dan Aykroyd will be returning for this sequel too.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife looks to harken back to the nostalgia of the past, while still bringing this franchise is a new, fresh direction. It will be released on July 10, 2020.
